Whenever you told anyone that you were visiting the UK, they would immediately think cold, bad weather and not having a great time. If on the other hand you then told them Spain, Turkey or Kenya they would be envious simply because of the fact that the weather is warm and the beaches are clean.

But that could all be a thing of the past as the UK summers are look set to become even hotter. For people living in Britain, there has already been a huge heat wave which has seen temperatures actually hit as high as 30. But the thing about the UK's sun is that it makes it a lot hotter then any other country.

If you have noticed in the summer Britain does not get dark until around 11 at night, whereas other hot countries get dark as soon as it hits 6 o clock, this is once again due down to the fact that the sun is a lot lower in the UK. So when it does actually get hot, it feels much hotter then it would in any other country.

But this does happen to become a bit worrying as it shows the extent of damage to the earth. Global warming is getting a lot worse especially in the UK. Although many people may well be unhappy that the summers are getting hotter, they must also remember that global warming causes the winters to get colder. We know that the UK is very vulnerable to flooding and the last time we had some snow the whole country came to a complete and utter standstill.

In the UK the year round weather is so blighted by rain and clouds – but the population got a well deserved break recently with some thermometer busting conditions. The last week of June this year saw UK temperatures soar to a reported 35 degrees Celsius (95 degrees Fahrenheit), the highest recorded for three years.  It was also the highest recorded temperature in June for many years – the average for June is 19-22 degrees Celcius (66-72F).

However when you subject such conditions on a people who hardly ever experience it, you can be sure of a little madness flying about.

The first thing British people do when even the smallest amount of sun is spotted is get their kit off.  With temperatures like this you can’t but avoid swarms of sunbathers trying to get a natural tan for once, jostling for space in the best suntanning spots.  No doubt doctors surgeries will get more than a few patients through their doors with worrying signs of skin cancer.

The Grass Is Always Greener

True to form, the British mentality can’t deal with simply being happy and counting there blessings for more than a few days. Inevitably complaints about it being too unbearably hot and sticky soon became commonplace, and people started longing for cooler conditions again. And, inevitably, there were petitions to demand the government do something about the awful hot weather and lack of air conditioning in public places!

With one section of the UK population is getting into their beach wear and throwing themselves on deckchairs directly under the sun, the rest rushes down to the high street and sucks up the entire stock of desk fans like some sweaty, many-headed monster. According to Google, searches for the term “portable air conditioner” in the UK went from 9,900 in May to 49,500 in June!

However these kinds of weather conditions are doomed to die out in the UK, and a week later the country was swept with heavy wind and rain.  Many environmental campaigners are pointing to these extremities as yet more evidence of the effects of climate change.The funniest part of it is that the same people who were complaining about the heat the previous week, are now complaining about the heavy rainfall. I guess there’s no winning.
